Another hypo attack
I woke up around 3:30 in the morning with clammy hands and partially numb tongue. Usually this indicates that my body’s telling me that I’m having hypoglycemia. I got up and tested and true enough my blood sugar was at 69=3.8. Normal would be around 72. My number wasn’t too low but I didn’t want to wait until I really crash.
I was too sleepy to eat anything. Good enough there’s bottled iced tea in the refrigerator which usually serves as my quick fix whenever I get hypo. I only drank half of it since I didn’t want my sugar to spike up. I know that would be enough.
I went back to bed and prayed that my baby would be ok and not be affected with the spikes and dips of my blood sugar. I woke up around 8am and my blood sugar is at 90, the normal level for fasting blood sugar.
I’m going crazy over my blood sugar numbers lately. It’s a bit frustrating really to get spikes and dips. Well, I try to analyze what I did wrong so that I could correct it and not do it again. My endocrinologist has been teaching me how to adjust my insulin dosages since she won’t be beside me everyday monitoring my blood sugar.
I know I shouldn’t have eaten the pancakes for my afternoon snack. Well, maybe that would be ok, but maybe I shouldn’t have eaten as much. Even if I didn’t put any sweetener (no syrup nor sugar or condensed milk), the carb count matters. I know my evening blood sugar numbers would be affected. So I decided to add 2 more units to my insulatard and actrapid before dinner. I only ate bbq with half a cup of brown rice, my blood sugar 1 hr after dinner was at 155! I felt that it was just right that I added more units so that my blood sugar would be corrected accordingly. Unfortunately, it resulted to a hypo attack. :( Maybe I shouldn’t have added the extra actrapid. Oh well.
This is definitely a learning process for me. It’s so important to track your blood sugar level and what you eat regularly since that’s the only way you will learn how your body works. It’s not always the same for everybody.
