Endocrinologist check-up
Whenever I have a check-up with my OB, I (or my hubby) would usually go to Capitol early in the morning to sign-up for the check up. They only release the sign up sheet every morning when she has clinic and since she only accepts 30 patients. Patients would usually sign up very early despite her clinic still starting at 2pm.
Unfortunately I had to go and sign up instead of my hubby since he’s in nightshift and would be coming from makati. He’d probably arrive there by 8:30 if he did it so it would be better if I sign up myself. Usually I’d arrive at the hospital before 7am and I’d be number 5 or 6. One time I was even number one! But today was a different story, I was number 19!!! I couldn’t believe it! :( Nyarks! I wonder what time would my turn be!
Anyway, I went home first to get some more sleep and just go back around 3pm. I foresee that I would be accommodated around 6pm but I have to go early since I still need to get an approval form from cocolife and they only issue around 2-4pm.
I really hate the going back and forth to the hospital since it’s pretty tiring, especially when one is pregnant. But then again, gotta sacrifice a bit since it’s for the benefit my lil one.
It was definitely a long wait but I had to be patient and wait for my turn. I was entertained around past 6pm already. It would have been at a later time if all those who signed up were present already.
Anyway, I showed my doctor my blood sugar monitoring book and discussed with her my spikes and hypos. Managing the insulin dosages can really be tricky since there are a lot of factors that can contribute to the highs and lows of one’s blood sugar. Right now I have fixed dosages (3 times a day) but she’s teaching me how to adjust it based on my blood sugar monitoring so I can correct my spikes (especially in the morning). It’s a learning process indeed.
Sometimes even if I just eat 2 (gardenia) pandesal for breakfast, my sugar would hit around 150! But that wouldn’t be the case if I eat it in the afternoon. Recording what I eat and it’s effect on my blood sugar level really helps in understanding my body. This enables me to plan my meals better so as to avoid spikes and hypos again. I’m not an expert yet with regards to insulin management but I’m surely learning a lot.
On a side note, I found out I didn’t gain any weight for the past month. I have mixed emotions about it. I’m really trying to manage my weight since I’m trying to avoid having a big baby which would cause a caesarian delivery but of course I still want to make sure that my baby is getting enough nutrients to ensure that he/she is healthy and normal.
